NASA chose Mars' Jezero Crater as landing site for Perseverance rover as scientists believe the area was once flooded with water and was home to an ancient river delta. It's one of the most promising places to look for evidence of ancient microbial life and to collect samples for future return to Earth. It was selected after a five-year study.
