Sheikh Hasina came to India- a country she has historic ties with- after ouster from Bangladesh. New Delhi has been her 'biggest ally' for years. Her father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was a friend of ex-PM Indira Gandhi and after his assassination, she remained in Delhi for several years. She maintains close ties with both PM Narendra Modi and opposition Congress.
