Why do airplane windows have tiny holes at the bottom?

An airplane window usually comprises three layers, with the middle pane consisting of a tiny hole called a 'bleed hole' or a 'breather hole'. The hole seeks to regulate the air pressure inside and outside the airplane. It further releases moisture from the gap between the inner and outer panes, preventing the window from fogging up.
