Why do airplanes take longer to fly West than East?

Even though the Earth spins at over 1,600 kmph to the East, airplanes take longer to fly West than East owing to the rotation's impact. The difference in time, to fly the same route in different directions, is caused due to the plane's relative movement in relation to the ground. Atmospheric winds called 'jet streams' also affect the speed.
