Why do days get shorter in winter?
short by Swati Dubey / on Tuesday, 9 December, 2025
Days get shorter in winter because Earth is tilted at an angle of about 23.5°, which makes one of its hemispheres lean away from the Sun during winter. The Sun takes a lower, shorter path across the sky, rising later and setting earlier. As it spends less time in the sky, daylight is shorter, and nights naturally become longer.
