Why do F1 cars spark?

F1 cars spark when titanium skid blocks under the chassis hit the track surface as the car bottoms out at high speed. These blocks are embedded in a wooden plank beneath the car. As aerodynamic forces push the car down, the blocks scrape the asphalt, creating sparks while protecting the plank from damage.
