Why do flight tickets suddenly get so expensive?

Flight tickets get expensive when cheaper seats sell out and airlines start offering costlier tickets as demand rises. Prices can rise even faster when flight disruptions reduce available seats while the demand remains high. The government has told the Supreme Court it has drafted rules to regulate airfares, surge pricing and excess baggage charges.
