Research by NRSC and INCOIS reveals that India's 6,000 dams trap river silicate, starving beneficial diatoms. This allows predatory, bioluminescent Noctiluca scintillans to dominate coastal waters, threatening fisheries and reducing the ocean's capacity to store atmospheric carbon.
