Why do mangoes fall before they become ripe?
short by Jayant Singh / on Saturday, 27 December, 2025
Mangoes fall before they become ripe when a tree experiences stress due to drought, heat, or poor nutrition. In stress, the tree stops sending sugar (sucrose) to the fruit and directs it to the roots and trunk for long-term storage, which leads to the falling of mangoes. Tree releases stress hormones that dissolve cell walls until the mango falls.
