Why do some humans grow horns?
short by Swati Dubey / on Tuesday, 4 November, 2025
Cutaneous horns are compacted keratin masses that grow outward from a person's skin, giving a horn-like appearance. They vary in colour from yellow to brown to grey, depending on trapped pigment and dead cells. They form when excess keratin builds up over lesions like warts or seborrhoeic keratoses, caused by human papilloma virus. While mostly harmless, some may cause cancer.
