Why do we say 'cheese' before taking photos?

According to a theory, we say 'cheese' before taking photos as saying the word causes a person to smile. During Victorian era, people avoided smiling in photographs by saying 'prunes', as only children and working class people usually smiled. However, when Kodak launched a camera in the 1900s, photography was made more accessible and was paired with smile-ad campaigns.
