Why do we struggle to recall childhood memories as per a new study?

A study revealed that though humans are capable of forming memories during infancy, they can't retrieve these memories later due to underdeveloped retrieval systems. Researchers studied infants performing a memory task and found that while infants can encode memories early on, postencoding mechanisms, whereby memories become inaccessible for retrieval, may be responsible for infantile amnesia.
