Why footwear prices may increase from August 1?

Footwear prices may rise from August 1 as shoes, sandals and slippers will have to meet new quality standard as per Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), thus increasing their manufacturing cost. Under new rule, raw materials used mainly in footwear will have to be tested for chemical properties. The new rules will make the goods strong and durable, BIS said.
