Using a new high-density network of 32 ground sensors, scientists from India and Japan tracked massive PM2.5 plumes travelling from rural Punjab and Haryana straight to Delhi. The smoke chokes the capital with a 1- to 3-day delay, bypassing satellite detection, which is frequently blinded by thick regional haze and cloud cover.
