Nearly 15,000 kindergartens shut down in China last year as the number of children enrolled in these schools declined for the third consecutive year. This is due to falling birth rates and growing population of elderly in the country. Families are also reluctant to give birth amid high housing and child-rearing costs and cut-throat competition for good schools and jobs.
