Why hospitals don't want patients to stay longer than needed?

Hospitals are encouraging shorter stays because most revenue is earned during consultations, tests and surgeries, while recovery uses beds with limited additional income. Faster discharges help treat more patients using the same infrastructure instead of adding beds. They also reduce costs, free up beds for new admissions and lower the risk of hospital-acquired infections.
