Why is Chicken’s Neck corridor important as WB transfers 120 acres of land to Centre?

Siliguri Corridor, or 'Chicken’s Neck', near which the West Bengal government is transferring 120 acres of land to the Centre, is strategically important as its blockage could cut northeastern states off from rest of India. It acts as a tight check chokepoint flanked by three international borders with Nepal, Bhutan, and Bangladesh. The transfer would accelerate national security projects there.
