Income Tax Day is celebrated on 24 July to commemorate introduction of income tax in India by Sir James Wilson on this day in 1860. It was introduced to counter financial strain caused by First War of Independence in 1857. The framework laid then eventually culminated in Income Tax Act of 1922 and later comprehensive Income Tax Act of 1961.
