Why is Jaipur known as the Pink City?

It is believed that during the rule of Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh, Jaipur was painted pink to welcome the Prince of Wales during his tour of India in 1876. This was because pink was said to denote the colour of hospitality. A law was later passed directing all buildings in the area to be painted the same colour.
