Why is Muhammad Yunus known as the 'Banker to the Poor'?

Muhammad Yunus has been chosen to lead the interim government in Bangladesh. In 1983, he founded the Grameen Bank to offer small loans to entrepreneurs who were typically ineligible for loans from conventional banks. The bank played a significant role in alleviating people from poverty, especially women. In 2006, Yunus and Grameen Bank were jointly awarded Nobel Peace Prize.
