Why is September's full moon called the corn moon?

The next full moon of 2025, which rises on the night of September 7, is also called the corn moon. This is because it coincides with the traditional corn harvest season in the northern United States. This year, it will appear red due to a total lunar eclipse, when Earth's shadow and refracted sunlight give the moon a reddish glow.
