Sheikh Hasina is referred to as 'Iron Lady' of Bangladesh due to resilience in overcoming immense personal tragedy and political challenges, combined with firm, authoritarian, grip on power during her long tenure as Prime Minister. After assassination of her father, Bangladesh's founding leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of her family in 1975 military coup, Hasina spent years in exile.
