Why is the National Flag hoisted on Independence Day but unfurled on Republic Day?

On Independence Day, the Tricolour is tied to lower part of flagpole, and it is raised by the PM. This act signifies the country attaining freedom from colonial rule. On Republic Day, the flag is tied at the top itself and unfurled. This represents unfurling of new ideas and laws and is a mark of renewed commitment to Indian Constitution.
