A massive fire gutted several hectares of forest in Uttarakhand. An expert blamed less winter rain for forest fires. High fire load on the ground, lack of soil moisture and some heat islands also contribute to forest fires in Uttarakhand. Separately, a report said that proximity to villages and presence of pine trees also cause forest fires in the state.
