Why should people always pay in the local currency when abroad?

When travelling abroad, people are often asked whether they want to pay in Indian Rupees or in the local currency of their destination. Choosing Indian Rupees often means accepting a process called Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC), which comes with hidden costs, Moneycontrol reported. Many Indian banks add a separate DCC fee. Paying in the local currency is almost always cheaper.
