Why US currency notes are called 'bucks'?

A buck, which is a slang for one dollar, has its origins in 18th century America when deerskin was used as currency. The value of deerskin was equated in terms of dollars and the practice of calling US dollars as bucks has continued despite deerskin no longer being in use as a unit of trade.
