High stress increases total cholesterol & LDL cholesterol due to sympathetic activation. Sympathetic activation during stress leads to higher free fatty acids and triglycerides. Chronic stress also leads to oxidative stress, increasing cholesterol levels and cardiovascular risk. Increased calorie and fat intake during stress can elevate cholesterol levels.
