Will provide citizenship to 2.5 lakh petitioners under CAA by Dec 31: Bengal CM

West Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari said his government would expedite hearings and grant CAA citizenship to 2.5 lakh petitioners by December 31. He said only 25,000 people in the state had received citizenship under CAA so far. Adhikari also announced ₹50 crore for the Matua community's development, which originated in present-day Bangladesh. He criticised ex-CM Mamata Banerjee for opposing CAA.
