Woman dies after following ChatGPT's health advice

Parents of Bowen Wan, 31, have sued OpenAI, alleging ChatGPT encouraged their daughter to reduce and eventually stop her epilepsy medication without medical supervision. The lawsuit claims the chatbot provided a reduction schedule and dismissed warning signs before Wan died in February 2026 from sudden unexpected death in epilepsy. OpenAI expressed sympathy and said she had used an older model.
