A 91-year-old woman from Kerala, Devaki Amma G, who grew a forest on barren coastal land in Kerala will be honoured with Padma Shri. She nurtured Kollakal Thapovanam, a five-acre forest that now contains over 3,000 trees including several indigenous, medicinal and rare plant species. The forest now also attracts fauna and Devaki Amma is affectionately known as 'Forest Grandma'.
