World Press Freedom Day, celebrated on May 3, was established by the UN in 1993 following UNESCO’s 1991 recommendation. It marks the 1991 Windhoek Declaration, which emphasised the importance of a free and independent press for democracy. This year’s theme is ‘Reporting In The Brave New World – The Impact Of Artificial Intelligence On Press Freedom And The Media'.
