World's first woman PM was appointed on this day

Sirimavo Bandaranaike became the first ever woman Prime Minister in the world, when she was appointed to Sri Lanka's top post on July 21, 1960. Bandaranaike entered politics after the assassination of her husband in September 1959. Notably, the world's second woman Prime Minister was Indira Gandhi, who was elected for the office in 1966.
