World's highest railway is over 5,000 metres above sea level

The Qinghai-Tibet railway in China holds the Guinness World Record for being the highest railway in the world, as its highest point reaches an altitude of 5,072 metres. Much of the 1,956-kilometre-long railway line lies around 4,000 metres above sea level. The railway, which was completed in 2005, links the Golmud and Lhasa cities.
