North American and Australian biologists have spotted a single female Megachile pluto, or 'Wallace's giant bee', the world's largest bee feared extinct for 38 years, in Indonesia. "It was absolutely breathtaking to see this 'flying bulldog'," photographer Clay Bolt said. First collected by British naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace in 1858, the bee was considered extinct until rediscovery in 1981.
