World's largest palladium producer pays ₹14,000cr fine for diesel leak in Arctic

Russian mining giant Norilsk Nickel, world's largest palladium producer, has paid a $2 billion (over ₹14,000 crore) fine for an oil spill in the Arctic. In May last year, 21,000 tonnes of diesel leaked from one of its storage tanks into rivers and lakes in Russia's Arctic north. President Vladimir Putin had declared a state of emergency after the spill.
