Britain's Queen Elizabeth II acceded to the throne on February 6, 1952, following the death of her father King George VI. She became the world's longest-serving living monarch after Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej passed away in October 2016. She was crowned at the age of 27 on June 2, 1953.
