Cambridge and Cardiff universities' researchers have found the world's oldest "fossil forest" in South West England. The fossilised trees' trunks were hollow and thin and the trees themselves lacked leaves and were instead covered in twig-like structures. The trees were up to four metres long and can be used to reconstruct the fossil forests using their "footprints", a researcher said.
