World's oldest Sumatran orangutan euthanised aged 62 in Aus

Puan, the world's oldest known Sumatran orangutan, was euthanised at an Australian zoo aged 62 after suffering from age-related complications. Believed to have been born in 1956 in Indonesia's Sumatra island, Puan was given to Perth zoo in 1968. Puan was the founding female of the zoo's breeding program and gave birth to 11 children, amassing 54 descendants spread worldwide.
