The University of Karueein in Morocco, also written as University of al-Qarawiyyin, founded in 859 AD, is recognised as the oldest existing and continually operating educational institution in the world, according to the Guinness World Records. It was founded in Fez, Morocco by Fatima al-Fihri. The educational centre was incorporated into Morocco's modern state university system in 1963.
