Worm revived 46,000 years after being frozen in Siberian permafrost

Scientists have revived a worm that was frozen 46,000 years ago below the surface in the Siberian permafrost. The roundworm survived in a dormant state known as cryptobiosis, in which all metabolic processes pause. It was revived by simply rehydrating the worm with water. After revival, it started producing babies through a process called parthenogenesis, which doesn't require a mate.
