X-rays were discovered by German physicist Wilhelm Conrad Rontgen on November 8, 1895. Dubbed so because of their unknown nature, X-rays were observed accidentally when Rontgen was testing the possibility of cathode rays passing through glass. The electromagnetic energy waves act at a wavelength which is 1,000 times shorter than those of light rays.
