Yaya Tso, which is known as a birds' paradise for its high-altitude lake, has been proposed as the first biodiversity heritage site for Ladakh, officials said. The Biodiversity Management Committee, Chumathang village panchayat along with the SECURE Himalaya project have resolved to do so under the Biological Diversity Act. The proposed site will cover an area of 60 sq km.
