Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangaswamy on Monday launched the distribution of Diwali grocery hampers to 3.5 lakh eligible families. According to reports, each hamper is worth ₹700 and contains sugar (2kg), cooking/sunflower oil (2 litres), chana dal (1kg), rava (500g), and maida (500g). This year, Diwali will be celebrated on November 8.

Firecrackers remain banned in Delhi ahead of Diwali 2026. In April 2025, Supreme Court imposed a year-round ban on their manufacture, storage, sale, distribution and use across Delhi-NCR. A temporary relaxation allowed use of approved green crackers during Diwali 2025 under strict conditions. SC recently expressed reluctance to impose a blanket ban on firecrackers this year.

Ayodhya's Ram Temple will be illuminated with one lakh diyas during Deepotsav, the Uttar Pradesh government said. Around 1,000 volunteers will help light the lamps across five zones. The temple trust has divided the entire complex into five zones for the event. Preparations to implement the plan on the ground will be completed over the next five days, it added.

A private jet carrying nine people crashed in a residential area of Florida's Palm Beach County on Sunday, killing everyone on board. Video of the crash showed the aircraft erupting into a massive fireball after the crash. The jet had taken off from Texas and was headed to the Bahamas when it started losing altitude from around 35,000 feet.
