Public service broadcaster 'Doordarshan' was launched in India on September 15, 1959. Notably, it was an experimental telecast started in New Delhi with the broadcast of half-an-hour programmes on education and development. The telecast was made using a temporary studio and a small transmitter. Currently, Doordarshan is one of the largest broadcasters in terms of studios and transmitters.
