The Sikh Regiment follows a unique tradition of saluting twice during the Republic Day parade. Before giving the official salute to the President, the regiment first offers a salute towards Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib. The tradition began on January 24, 1979, during a full-dress rehearsal from Vijay Chowk to Red Fort, to honour the martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur.
