The Amazon rainforest is rapidly shifting towards an extreme hypertropical climate driven by rising heat, altered humidity and stronger sunlight, a study has warned. Researchers analysing 30 years of environmental data say hot droughts will grow longer and more frequent. By 2100, some regions could face up to 150 drought days a year, severely threatening trees and biodiversity.
