The central government introduced a bill in Rajya Sabha on Friday which makes any obstruction or insult to singing 'Vande Mataram' a criminal offence with a punishment of three years. The amendment seeks to add the national song to Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971 which criminalises any disrespect to the national flag, the Constitution, and national anthem.
