Antarctica gained 695 bn tons of ice amid warming in Indian Ocean: Study
A study published in 'Nature' found that East Antarctica gained 695 billion tons of ice between 2021–2023, due to extreme warming in the western Pacific and eastern Indian Ocean. Tropical heat altered atmospheric circulation, sending moisture towards Antarctica and causing heavy snowfall. Researchers warned that the temporary gain doesn't offset the 140.5 billion tons lost annually.
