Why are chocolate bars divided into little segments?

Chocolate bars have grooves that divide them into smaller segments. Physicist Helen Czerski explained that the grooves in chocolate bars are intentionally engineered weak points designed to control how the chocolate breaks. The segmented design also helps with portion control and makes sharing equal pieces easier. Creating identical segments also makes manufacturing easier.
