The Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill, 2026, which proposes to increase the number of Supreme Court judges from 34 to 38 (including Chief Justice of India) has been passed in Lok Sabha. The bill was passed without any discussion amid disruptions in the lower house. It seeks to replace the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Ordinance, 2026.
